In 1953 Richard Fluker started a small cricket farm that serviced bait shops in Southern Louisiana for fishing purposes. Crickets became standard bait for fishing in Louisiana. After many years of hard work and relentless effort, Fluker Farms expanded its cricket production to the pet shop market. Entering the pet shop industry allowed Mr. Fluker to grow and expand for the future. While becoming successful in the pet industry, Flukers looked toward Zoos, Universities, and research facilities. This developed into a large industry with Fluker Farms leading the way. In 1989 Flukers expanded its feeder insect selection. Meal Worms were an item that were selling well and helped Flukers grow in the industry. Operating on 12 acres of land, Flukers has become the largest feeder insect producer in the world. Fluker Farms now services thousands of customers both large and small.

Seachem was established in 1981 by Dr. Leo G. Morin, then an associate professor in the School of Medicine, Emory University, Atlanta, GA. In 1994, Dr. Morin retired from the university and became full time CEO and Scientific Director of Seachem. Seachem occupies about 24,000 square feet which include production and research laboratories, manufacturing, inventory, shipping, and office space.
Seachem's first product was a complexed copper for treating protozoan infestations, still sold today as Cupramine^TM. Seachem products have been and continue to be based on sound science. They now cover the full spectrum of aquarium requirements in freshwater, seawater, reefs, and ponds. They include buffers, conditioners, filtration media, medications, and test kits. Most of Seachem's products are totally unique and specific to Seachem.
