MAIL LISTS

There are ways to get aquaria related info from the Internet other than via the web. This section will list places to go to find mail lists. This is basically down via email. You subscribe to a list and everything posted to that list will be delivered to your email address. You can then either reply to the list, for all subscribers to see, or reply individually.

Beware that by doing this you can get an awful lot of mail delivered to you. You can also encounter the famous flame wars, and posts that are not exactly on topic insofar as the list is concerned. On the upside, however, they can be a good place to pass along and get timely information.

If you are not familiar with mail lists, find one to your liking and subscribe. Once you get a feel for it, you can subscribe to others.

You can also get what are known as digests, one very long email with the posts of the past twenty-four hours. Many, however, find this difficult to post a reply from, and tie it into the thread which evinces the reply. However, it can be a good choice for those who are limited in their email capacity.

When you subscribe, you will get a message explaining how to send commands to the list processor to do different things. Print this message and keep it in a safe, yet handy, place for future reference. The commands will differ depending on what is being used to process the list.

Remember, when asking for information, subscribing, or sending other commands to the list server to ensure that the command is the only thing that appears in the body of your email, or you may get an error message, or nothing in return.

ALGAE-L
