Founded in August of 1980, the Pacific Coast Cichlid Association exists to meet the needs
of the west coast cichlid hobbyist. By-Laws were constructed in 1983-1984 and the PCCA
was incorporated as a non-profit corporation under the laws of the state of California on
January 30, 1985. Since inception, the PCCA has grown rapidly from a local society of 20
members to one of national scope, with members all over the world.

News and Updates

  • July 2008 Speaker: The Pacific Coast Cichlid Association is proud to announce Mr.
    Bob Boone
, from Hayward, California, as our speaker on July 12, 2008.

Mr. Bob Boone has been in the industry since about 1970 working part-time in a pet shop
in Colorado. He designed a tropical fish hatchery and converted a catfish farm using
geothermal water in 1979 and he also ran the facilities for one year.

In fact, Mr. Bob Boone started doing wholesale in 1980 and helped design and build
Colorado's first multi-tank recirculation systems in 1981. He moved out to the bay area in
1986 where he worked for a wholesaler for four years then he moved to Texas in 1990 and
worked for Fritz Industries for six years (four years as general manager of livestock operations
for six warehouses and two years in R&D mostly working with nitrifying bacteria).

In 1999, Mr. Robert Rodriguez and Mr. Bob Boone started Aquatic Specialties And Pets
    (A.S.A.P)
which is the biggest Northern California wholesaler of marine and freshwater fish.

In total, Mr. Bob Boone has designed the fish rooms for two stores, nine warehouses, and
    the geothermal fish hatchery.

Effective with your next renewal, the Cichlid Blues publication will only be available in PDF
format, which will be emailed to you. This is due to the rising costs of the publications and
most other fish club are moving to this format. The PCCA could raise dues but we feel that it
is better to try and cut costs. The cost of your dues (printed) does not cover the costs of the
publications. Please make sure that the PCCA has your emails address to receive the
Cichlid Blues. If your do not have email, copies of the Cichlid Blues will be available at the
General Membership meetings. Sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause. For
